Proverbs 1 – 4
“My son, if sinful men entice you, do not give in” (Prov. 1:10). I know from my experience having a lot of non-Christian friends, it can be quite a struggle sometimes to not give into sin or feel dragged towards sinful ways.
But how easily led are we? Do we know where we stand in Christ? Because I feel if we don’t know where we stand in Christ, and we don’t know our identity, then our chances of being led astray are more likely to increase. Although it may seem that we are “missing out” or “not living life to the full” we need to reassure ourselves of a much greater and bigger inheritance were are striving for. “He holds success in store for the upright he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones”. (Prov. 2:7-8)
When we find life/friends etc. a battle Proverbs 3:5-6 is very helpful – “Trust in The Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight “. This can be a great verse for times of struggle and can help us to stay focused on God.
“Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk with in the way of evildoers” – I think it so important that we hold a Bible in one hand and a newspaper in the other. We need to understand God’s way of wanting us to live but also we have to be realistic and understand modern society and its imperfections. We don’t need to take part in the sinful ways but always be a support to people.
Challenges for you –
- So how easily led are you?
- Do you know your identity? If yes, then does that help you stand firm in Christ?
- Do you just hold a bible in one hand? Or do you hold the bible in one and a newspaper in the other?
