Day 97 – Seacht n-Eaglaisí

Revelation 2 – 3

“To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands.  I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary.” (Rev 2: 1-3)

The one who walks among the seven lampstands is Jesus Christ. The lampstands represent the churches that are referred to later in chapters 2 and 3. Jesus holds seven stars in His right hand and these represent the messengers/angels of the churches. This is symbolic for Jesus’ power and authority over these churches and their leaders.

This particular church in Ephesus (in verses 1-7) had become a large, loud and proud church and this message from Jesus would remind them that He alone, is the Head of the body of believers.

If you are tempted to doubt that God cares about ignite (your church) then read more of chapter 2 and 3…. The Lord knew each of the seven churches in detail and knew their precise situation. John is told exactly what to write to each one – specific people, places and events are mentioned. Jesus praises the believers for successes but tells hem how to correct failings.

Just as Jesus cared for each of these early churches he cares for us and you to be a part of it. The group of believers in ignite is one of God’s vehicles for potentially changing the world!! We should take it seriously – because God does.

Looking a bit closer at this church in Ephesus…. The foundation for everything is love but Jesus commends them for 1, working hard; 2, persevering; 3, resisting sin; 4, critically examining the claims of false prophets; 5, enduring hardships without becoming weary.

Would he say the same about ignite?
