Get to Know You: Brian

Tell us about yourself.
I grew up in Blackrock, been here all my life, went to Carysfort National School for primary school and Oatlands College for secondary. Been to two colleges, first was Bray (BIFE) where I studied Gym and Sports Instruction. I am currently studying in IBI where I study Applied Theology. Its a load of fun! I have spent all my life in Ireland, bar about a month where I have gone to either family in England or NI.

Has there been a time in your life where you have experienced God in a real way?
Of course God has impacted me a lot in my life, and there have been many occasions where I have been impacted by Him in a big way. I have always struggled with the issue of grace, and I suppose as I have gotten older I have learned to lean on the grace that He has shown me, and really let it take over my life. My first real God experience with the bible was when I read Romans 12 while in college when I was going through a difficult season. It pulled me from the depths of despair and I am a changed man because of that experience.

What impact does your faith have on your day-to-day life?
I remember that I am a child of God and that I am saved by grace no matter what I do. So I am positive and I hope people see that in me. I want people to see that God is working in me and through me all the time.

What does grace mean to you?
Grace has grown on me since I first heard about it when I was younger. I hated it. I didn’t like the idea of it. Why would someone die for me, to forgive me of all the bad and nasty things that I have done in my life? I wrestled with that topic for a long time and sought the help of my leaders to try and gain an understanding. No matter what they said to me, it wasn’t until I experienced the raw power grace has on a person that I got it. I appreciate it more. I am thankful for it. For me it means God is a loving caring God and He loves me so much that he sent Jesus to do what he did. And I am saved because of that sacrifice.
