Day 33 – Taking on Goliath

1 Samuel 16 – 18

“You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”    (1 Sam 17:45)

Before becoming King, David was made famous for being the one to take down a successful Philistine warrior called Goliath. David was just a boy when it happened and in front of his nation’s army, he went head to head with the giant Goliath. David didn’t have any kind of advantage over Goliath in a military sense, but had a secret weapon – the LORD. With God he was able to defeat Goliath. I don’t think that meant David wasn’t scared or nervous but he trusted in God. He wasn’t confident in his own abilities but in God’s.

Is there a Goliath in your life? Maybe it’s a difficult person, a big worry, or a challenge you’re facing. Like David you may not have all the skills you need to face it, but you too have a secret weapon! Tell God about that Goliath-shaped problem in your life and ask him to help you overcome it – ‘If our God is for us, who can be against us?’

Here’s a recap of the story in stick man form!
